Collagen (Collagen Peptides)

The structural protein of skin, joints, and bone. Taken as hydrolyzed peptides, it shows moderate improvements in skin elasticity and hydration in studies — one of the few 'beauty' supplements with real data.

Also known as: kollagen, collagen, kollagenpeptide, collagen peptides, hydrolysiertes kollagen

How it works

Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in skin, tendons, bone and cartilage. Taken orally as peptides, it's broken into amino acids and small peptides that serve as building blocks and as a signal for the body's own collagen production. Studies show improved skin hydration and elasticity and some joint-comfort relief.

Dosage

2.5–10 g/day hydrolyzed collagen peptides. Combine with vitamin C (cofactor of collagen synthesis).

Considerations

Hydrolyzed peptides are best studied; several RCTs show improved skin elasticity and hydration — though many studies are industry-funded, so read with some caution. For joints, the evidence is weaker. Not vegan (from beef, pork, or fish). Ultimately 'smart protein': the effect works more via peptide signaling than direct incorporation.
